A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

"2 out of 5" - Vanilla Cobra

All of the Nightmare on Elm Street share the same nightmares of a man seeking revenge for being hunted down by the parents of the children he had killed.

Freddy, for the first time ever not played by Robert Englund, but is re-created by Jackie Earl Haley in a hit and miss performance. The problem here is lack of direction. At it's core, there is a good movie trying to break out. Instead of substance, were wannabe shock scares. Initially I thought they might have been onto something but, as the film continues, I grew uninterested and just wanted to sleep. That's right...FALL ASLEEP!

Haley's portrayal of Kruger didn't reach my expectation nor anticipation. The characters in distress don't build any sympathy. The story had high points for a few moments, but not enough to do Freddy the same justice Rob Zombie gave to Michael Myers, even the Friday the 13th reboot that had limited plot substance, but made up with ruthlessness.

Freddy's initial image in the original was more effective than a conspiracy theory subplot of Freddy's actions. He was far more evil in Wes Craven's original. This reboot suffered greatly for flat out trying TOO HARD. Maybe come its DVD release, I will be appreciate this entry more, but as far as a first impression goes, it didn't live up to it's unavoidable hype.

We still love you Robert Englund, you'll always be the serial killer of our dreams.

Best Kill: The very end, you'll have to see it.

Best Line: "Why are you screaming, I haven't even cut you yet" (listen for the poorly recycled lines)
